Most answers to "how much does a therapist website cost" stop at "it depends." That is true and useless. Below are real CAD ranges by tier for Canadian private practice sites, including what you are actually paying for, the owner-time cost nobody prices, and where Allied Edge sits as one option among several.

These ranges come from quoting and reviewing therapy and allied health websites in Ontario. They are not a national survey. Platform subscription fees change. Confirm any vendor price on that vendor's current pricing page before you buy.

Allied Edge publishes two options: Custom Website at $2,495 one-time (you own the code), and Managed Website at $495 setup plus $2,690/year prepaid or $249/month, with a 12-month initial term. Up to 10 pages. Extra pages $250. All CAD. HST at checkout where applicable. See website creation.

    DIY platform costs

DIY is the cheapest cash outlay and the most expensive in owner time.

You pay the platform subscription and a domain. For many Canadian practices that means a few hundred dollars a year once you add a usable plan, a domain after the promotional year, and any booking add-on. Exact Squarespace and Wix list prices change by region and billing period. Check Squarespace pricing and Wix plans for the numbers shown at checkout in Canada.

What DIY does not price: writing issue pages, photographing clinicians, deciding fees and insurance language, connecting Jane or Owl, and iterating until the site is clearer than a Psychology Today profile. Budget 20 to 80 hours for a first serious attempt if you have never shipped a practice site before. That is clinic time you are not seeing clients.

DIY suits a solo therapist with a thin schedule who needs something live this month. It breaks when you need per-issue architecture, multiple clinician pages with accepting status, or CRPO-aware copy that is not a template block.

    Template or theme builds

A freelancer or small shop configures Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, or a clinic template. Cash cost often lands around $1,500 to $4,000 in our quoting experience, plus the platform or hosting bill.

You get speed and a nicer first impression than pure DIY. You rarely get discipline-specific information architecture. Many of these projects still ship one generic Services page and a contact form. Fine for a brochure. Weak for organic search and conversion against a directory profile.

    Freelance custom builds

Custom design or a heavily customized WordPress theme often quotes between about $3,000 and $8,000 one-time in our experience. Quality varies more than the price band suggests.

Ask what is included: copywriting or content entry only, number of pages, booking integration, redirects if you are migrating, revision rounds, and who owns the codebase. A lower quote that excludes copy and SEO foundations is not cheaper. It is unfinished.

    Agency custom builds

Agency builds for private practice commonly sit around $5,000 to $15,000+ depending on page count, copy depth, multi-location needs, and whether marketing retainers are bundled. Allied Edge's Custom Website at $2,495 is intentionally scoped: up to 10 conversion-focused pages, booking integration, SEO foundations, two revision rounds, and code ownership at handoff. It is not an unbounded brand project.

If a quote is much higher, ask what extra you are buying. Brand systems, photography, multi-site rollouts, and ongoing SEO campaigns are different products.

    Ongoing hosting and maintenance

Hosting alone for a static or lightly dynamic site can be tens of dollars a month. WordPress maintenance, plugin updates, and content changes push that higher. Platform builders fold hosting into the subscription.

Managed Website at Allied Edge is $495 setup plus $2,690/year or $249/month, 12-month initial term. We host and maintain the custom-coded site. You do not receive a runnable codebase to self-host. Compare that honestly to DIY platform fees plus your own update time, or to a freelancer on retainer.

What you are actually paying for

Whether DIY or hired help, a practice site that works usually includes:

    1. Copywriting for home, issues or conditions, fees, and clinician pages written for clients, not as a CV dump.
    2. Design that is fast on mobile and does not bury the next step.
    3. Build on a stack you can maintain or that someone else maintains.
    4. SEO foundations: titles, meta descriptions, sitemap, schema, clean URLs.
    5. Booking integration on service and clinician pages, not only in the nav.
    6. Revisions so the first draft is not the final draft.
    7. Training so someone on your team can request or make routine updates.
    8. Post-launch support for the first weeks when broken links and missing fees show up.

If a quote only covers "design and develop from your existing copy," you still own the hardest part.

The cost nobody prices: owner time and lost bookings

A $0 DIY site that takes three months of evenings has a real cost. So does a pretty site that hides fees, offers only a contact form, and loses every inquiry that would have booked on Psychology Today in two clicks.

Response time after inquiry is still the conversion lever for therapy practices. A clearer website that feeds a slow inbox will look like a website problem when it is an intake problem. Pair the build with a working reply workflow. Start with the free Intake Conversion Playbook.

We are one option, not the only answer.

    • Custom Website: $2,495 one-time. You own the code. Up to 10 pages. Extra pages $250. Typical launch in a few weeks once assets and feedback move.
    • Managed Website: $495 setup + $2,690/year or $495 setup + $249/month. Same build quality. We host and maintain. 12-month initial term.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a therapist website cost in Canada?

Expect DIY platforms in the low hundreds of dollars per year plus owner time; template builds often around $1,500 to $4,000; freelance custom roughly $3,000 to $8,000; agency custom commonly $5,000 to $15,000+ depending on scope. Allied Edge Custom Website is $2,495 one-time. These bands reflect quoting experience, not a published industry survey.

Is a $2,495 custom website enough for a group practice?

It can be if you stay within about 10 pages or budget extra pages at $250 each. Large multi-clinician maps with many issue pages cost more because the architecture is larger, not because the hourly rate magically changes.

Should I choose Managed Website instead?

Choose Managed if you want hosting and routine updates handled and you are fine not owning a self-hostable codebase. Choose Custom if you want code ownership and will arrange hosting yourself.

Does a cheaper Wix site convert as well?

Sometimes for a solo with simple needs. Often not when the buyer is comparing you to a directory profile that shows fees, issues, and a contact button immediately. Conversion is an architecture and clarity problem before it is a platform problem.

    What about Jane Websites pricing?

Jane markets Jane Websites as a separate add-on from the Jane practice subscription. Jane's public materials have listed it at $59/month with billing starting at launch. Confirm on Jane's websites feature page before you decide. Booking sync is the strength. Custom IA and code ownership are not the point of that product.
